Eligibility

Eligible organisations

Colleges, Schools, Adult Education Providers, Training Providers, Employers, Businesses, Local Authorities, and Community & Charity Organisations.

Eligible individuals

Learners/students, apprentices, educators, organisational staff and employer representatives affiliated with an eligible organisation above (including nominees for individual categories such as Inspirational Learner of the Year and Excellence in Teaching).

Activity period

Unless stated otherwise in a category, entries should evidence outcomes and impact achieved between 1 September 2024 and 31 March 2026.  Longer‑running initiatives can be entered, but submissions must clearly articulate new developments and impact within the period.

Geography

Work must primarily benefit learners, employers and communities within the Local London partnership area; multi‑area projects are eligible if a material proportion of impact is within Local London.  The Local London area includes the London Borough administrative boundaries of: Barking & Dagenham, Bexley, Bromley, Enfield, Greenwich, Havering, Newham, Redbridge, Waltham Forest.

Who can nominate

Self‑nominations and third‑party nominations are welcomed across all categories, unless a category specifies otherwise.

Number of entries

Organisations may submit multiple entries and may enter the same project into more than one category if each entry is clearly tailored to the category’s intent and criteria. Duplicate, copy‑paste entries risk being marked down.

Category Criteria and Eligibility Guide

The Local London Vocational Innovation in Skills Training Awards (VISTAs) celebrate outstanding achievements in learning, skills, training, employer development, employment support and education across the Local London partnership area, with a strong emphasis on partnership working and learner outcomes.

What a strong entry looks like

Each submission should address these four dimensions (weightings may vary by category - see below):

Need & Context (15%)

Why the work was needed (learner, employer, or community need); baseline position; target beneficiary groups.

Approach & Collaboration (25%)

Design, delivery model, partners and roles (e.g., colleges ↔ employers ↔ local authority ↔ VCSE), governance, inclusivity, and ethical practice.

Outcomes & Impact (45%)

Quantitative results (participation, achievement, progression, employment outcomes, attainment gaps closed, productivity indicators) and qualitative evidence (testimonials, case studies). Focus on benefits to learners and employers in Local London.

Innovation, Learning & Scalability (15%)

What’s new or exemplary? Transferability across boroughs, sustainability, and lessons learned.

Evidence types:

KPI tables, MIS extracts, evaluation summaries, employer letters, learner case studies, media coverage, and links to outputs (e.g., curriculum materials).

Categories, Criteria & Evidence

Below are the nine VISTA categories with specific criteria and indicative evidence:

Note: If you’re unsure where your entry fits, you may submit to more than one category provided the narrative is tailored to the criteria.

Inspirational Learner of the Year (Individual)

Purpose: Honours a learner who has overcome significant challenges and demonstrated exceptional commitment, progressing learning and inspiring others.

Entrants: Learners, apprentices, or recent completers (within the activity period) affiliated with an eligible organisation.

Organisational Learning Culture Award (Organisation)

Purpose: Acknowledges organisations creating a positive, inclusive, growth‑oriented learning environment for staff and stakeholders.

Excellence in Teaching Award (Educator)

Purpose: Celebrates educators who champion inclusive practice and deliver exceptional support to diverse learners, ensuring equitable access.

Student Changemaker of the Year (Individual)

Purpose: Recognises a student who exemplifies transformative leadership, courage, and innovation in driving positive change for peers and community.

Leadership in Learning Award (Individual or Team)

Purpose: Recognises leadership that transformed provision and fostered a culture of continuous learning.

Learning Innovation Award (Project/Tool/Model)

Purpose: Celebrates pioneering tools, strategies, or programmes that significantly enhance learning experience and outcomes.

Employer Educator of the Year (Employer)

Purpose: Recognises an employer with exceptional dedication to developing their workforce through training, upskilling and lifelong learning.

Digital Learning Excellence Award (Project/Programme/ Team)

Purpose: Honours innovative and impactful use of digital technologies to enrich teaching and learning.

Community Impact in Education Award (Project/Programme/
Partnership)

Purpose: Recognises initiatives that build meaningful learning connections between providers, employers and communities, driving positive social change.

Collaborative Learning Award (Partnership)

Purpose: Celebrates innovative partnerships (e.g., schools - colleges - business - LA - VCSE) that expand opportunity and/or improve employment outcomes.

Learning Trailblazer (Student Voice & Leadership) — Individual or Group

Purpose: Honours students who demonstrate leadership, advocacy, and influence in shaping learning environments and inspiring others.

Green Innovator Award (Individual or Organisation)

Purpose: Celebrates innovative thinking and commitment to environmental sustainability and the development of green skills.

How to Enter

Entry format: Online form (suggested max. 1,000 words per entry), plus up to 3 supporting documents (PDF/Word) and 2 links (e.g., video, web).

Deadline: 5pm  Friday 17 April 2026.

Permissions: Entrants must ensure that they hold rights/consents for all materials submitted, including photos and case studies.

Judging & Shortlisting

Judging panel

Senior figures from the education and skills ecosystem (AoC, GLA, Local Authorities, London Councils, business groups, NHS/VCSE, etc., as listed in the brief).

Process

Project Team - Eligibility check

Project Team - Longlisting - Independent scoring against category criteria

Judges - Shortlisting - Judging panel moderation to confirm finalists and winners

Judges - Winners announced at the House of Lords ceremony.

Conflict of interest

Any judge linked to an entry must declare a possible conflict of interest and will recuse themselves from discussion/scoring of that entry.

Terms & Conditions

Accuracy

Entries must be accurate and capable of verification.  Organisers may request additional evidence.

Safeguarding & Duty of Care

Entries featuring learners should avoid sensitive personal data and must confirm appropriate consents for any case studies or images.

EDI & Accessibility

The VISTAs promote equality, diversity and inclusion; judges will value entries that evidence inclusive design and impact.

Data protection

Personal data will be used solely for administering the awards and related communications, in line with applicable UK data protection law.

Publicity

Finalists consent to reasonable publicity (programme, website, social). Winners may be featured in event collateral; each winner will receive a framed certificate, glass award and a gift voucher.

Right to withdraw

The organisers reserve the right to move an entry to a more suitable category or withdraw entries that breach rules.
